Different Types of hydraulic cylinders

Hydraulic cylinder is one of the most significant parts of hydraulic industry and it is used in almost all application. Hydraulic cylinders systems uses fluid energy to apply force without needing any mechanical lever or gear. It is widely used in industrial application and come in variety of types to meet the industry demand.  Most hydraulic cylinder system supplier commonly offers these types of cylinders so it is important to choose right cylinder for specific needs and application purpose.  Here are some of the types of hydraulic cylinders that vary in application.

Tie rod cylinder

Industrial and manufacturing applications excessively use tie rod cylinders .These cylinders uses threaded steel rods hold two end caps to the ends of the cylinders barrel to prevent fluid leakage. The reason for excessive use tie rod is the ease of repair and assembling it provides.

Welded rod cylinders

These cylinders require welding of the caps on the ends of the barrels which made its assembling  difficult. This type of cylinder is preferred in mobile application due to the compact construction, internal bearing lengths and duty cycle. The repair of welded rod cylinders is difficult due to non-availability of specific tools.

Telescopic cylinders

Telescopic cylinder are multi- layer  tubes cylinder  compose of series of steel tube adjusted one over the other named as stages used when stroke length is longer than retracted  length. The diameter of each tube is less than the prior one in the series.

Double acting cylinders

Double acting cylinders are used in raising and lowering devices. These cylinders contain ports for pumping fluid in the both ends which controls the flow of fluids in both directions. These cylinders are not common in hydraulic industry in contrast with single acting cylinders.

Single acting cylinder

Hydraulic jack is the example of single acting cylinder in which the head port of this cylinder works in single direction. It use hydraulic pressure to extent and retract the piston rod for operation.
